Philips ActiLume

At last… truly simple lighting control!
July 14th 2006

Philips ActiLume is an automatic lighting control system with a difference. The system consists of a sensor and controller unit built into the luminaire and is operated with the new Philips HF-REGULATORII gear. It is suitable for 80% of applications straight out of the box, which makes it the first true Plug and Play lighting control system on the market. And, automatic lighting control means you benefit from automatic energy savings.

Easy to Install

ActiLume is the first true Plug & Play lighting controls system and can be installed in only 3 simple steps. Through a simple click the luminaires are linked and can be mounted in the ceiling. Via a push on the sensor, the kind of office (cell or open plan) can be chosen. Other applications can be chosen via the simple mode selection tool.

The ActiLume sensor and controller will operate up to 9 DALI luminaires without the need for commissioning the ballasts, additional movement sensors can also be connected anywhere on the DALI control line. Therefore complicated programming and commissioning is something of the past.

Maximum Energy Savings

In addition to being easy to install the ActiLume system also offers the opportunity for major energy and cost savings. These savings of up to 75% will also have a significant impact on the reduction of CO2 emissions and help towards the reaching of Kyoto targets. Moreover, the light output level of the luminaire is already pre-programmed according to its position (window or corridor side of the office). The level of light of the corridor side will follow the window side with a 30% offset offering additional energy savings.

Design Freedom

ActiLume consists of a compact sensor and controller unit, designed to be built in the luminaire and ready to use. The sensor has four functions: a light sensor for daylight depending regulation, a movement detector for occupancy control, an IR receiver for remote control and a service button. The lighting can also be controlled manually, either by a wired switch with a single push switch, (Touch and Dim), or with a remote control.

Advanced Technology

The system is operated with Philips HF-REGULATORII ballasts. This latest generation of electronic regulating ballasts incorporates EII technology for reduced power consumption and standby losses (now only 350mA). Featuring guaranteed striation free lamp operation from 1-100% dimming and quick 0.5- second start this is ideal for installations with daylight linking and movement detection. Philips HF-REGULATORII ballasts are in CELMA class A1 and will not be banned like the less efficient C class electromagnetic types. The ballasts also comply with the RoHS requirements.

Compliance with Standards

The European Norm EN12464 and the building directive 2002/91/CEE stimulate ergonomics and energy saving in the work place. With the Philips ActiLume system you can easily comply with both regulations. In addition to compulsory EMC requirements the ballast also complies with EN55022B, which supports the explosion in telecommunication developments such as WiFi hotspots. In addition Philips fluorescent lamps contain the lowest levels of mercury.
