 Efficient Air Ltd company's profile

At Efficient Air we inspect, analyse, recommend, act and optimise – and we involve our clients all of the way
July 04th 2007

Efficient Air is the UK’s only specialist independent company that assesses the HVAC performance and significantly reduces its energy load by combining the installation of efficient air movement technology with optimised system operation. From centres in the south and the north, Efficient Air works closely with energy and facilities managers in organisations to design, construct, update, operate, and manage their HVAC systems at a lower cost, while improving sustainability and reducing CO2 emissions.

With years of practical experience and many impressive case studies behind it, Efficient Air has developed a series of products that are tailor made to carry out this work. “We call our approach ‘invasive’,” explains Sales and Marketing Director,Gareth Fox.

“It means taking a thorough look at what is happening behind the scenes. Our clients do not expect, and we do not seek, superficial solutions provided by sophisticated energy management systems (although they might have a role to play).

“Our solutions provide you with quick wins, short term gains and medium term savings way beyond the accepted norm. And we are proud to call ourselves unique in this regard.”

The Efficient Air approach involves four logical steps that have to be followed in chronological order:

1. The Free HVAC Energy Audit

2. The HVAC Performance Survey

3. HVAC Energy Projects

4. HVAC Systems Optimiser

The Free Audit produces information such as actual fan performance and fan and motor speeds to create a Business Case proposal that guarantees the percentage reduction in input power for the same output. This leads to a full Survey of the building’s HVAC services, and an immediate 5 per cent to 25 per cent improvement in its performance including no-cost wins and capital projects with very attractive paybacks. At the HVAC Energy Project stage, the capital investment projects that represent best value and payback are implemented, ensuring minimum downtime and disruption. On completion of this work Efficient Air will carry out a commissioning survey to verify the energy savings.

To complete the package, Efficient Air has now launched its HVAC System Optimiser .“Our investigations were showing that dramatic energy rises were occurring as a result of conflicting control strategies, sensor drift and manual overrides, and they were not being detected,”explains Efficient Air’s Technical Director, Steve Biggs.

“Our solution has been to devise a HVAC Systems Optimiser that uses our unique knowledge on how to fine tune the performance of HVAC components operating within an air handling system. The aim is to optimise the energy consumed whilst maintaining the desired environmental conditions.”

Using this system, Brighton University, who invested £1800 with Efficient Air on a 12 month Optimisation Support contract for the main air handling unit at its Watts Building, has reduced its energy bill by £5,500, equal to 7,360 kW/hrs for electricity and 208,891 kW/hrs for gas, improving its HVAC systems energy performance by an additional 20 per cent per year.
