Corona Energy working in partnership with customers
July 01st 2008

Corona Energy, which is wholly owned by the Macquarie Group, is a leading energy supplier to both public and private sectors. The company prides itself on working in partnership with customers to offer them highly flexible procurement options combined with a comprehensive range of services

The service provided by Corona Energy goes far beyond the simple supply of gas. Indeed, Corona Energy regards itself as unique in the gas market. “We consider ourselves the gas experts,” expands Neil Mitchell. “We have the in-house resources and expertise to fulfil the widest possible range of customer energy needs. This encompasses technical services, gas buying and trading, as well as helping our customers reduce their gas bills and improve their all-round energy performance.”

Corona prides itself on adopting an environmentally responsible approach. It was among the first gas suppliers to offer e-billing which reduces the customer’s administration time and costs significantly. Corona also pioneered the offer of Automated Meter Reading (AMR), an exciting development in the world of gas metering which has made estimated bills and manual reads a thing of the past.

AMR offers customers the opportunity to monitor energy performance and make immediate adjustments that can lead to substantial cost savings. And because AMR is leading edge technology in which Corona Energy leads the market, the company is able to work side-by-side with customers in a consultative capacity to help them exploit the data to its full potential.

“The data available through AMR is highly accurate, reliable and detailed,”says Kieron Farry, Energy Services Director.“We are unique in that we help our customers interpret it to ensure they are gaining maximum benefit.

“To our customers we are their energy services partner rather than a gas supplier.”

Historic Royal Palaces (HRP), the independent charity that cares for the Tower of London, Hampton Court Palace, Banqueting House, Kensington Palace and Kew Palace, has been an early adopter of Corona Energy’s AMR service. “Our aim was to understand what’s going on with our gas usage,” said Tony King, Maintenance & Facilities Manager. “People think there’s not a lot you can do with historic buildings to save energy but, as long as you have the right data, you can still cut out a lot of waste. If you can’t measure it, you can’t manage it ”

The figures speak for themselves. Since rolling AMR out, HRP has achieved a 25% saving on gas usage on the main boiler house at the Tower of London by alterations to the Building Management System but the savings will be maintained by the information provided from the AMR. Potential savings of £30,000 pa have also been identified at Hampton Court Palace.
